In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, performs firefighting duties emergency situations as determined by the State Forest Fire Warden.
Works under the supervision of an employee of the same or higher grade.
Acts as first responder to emergency fire, medical and hazardous materials incidents; evaluates nature and severity of incidents, selects appropriate tools and techniques and activates appropriate type of water, chemical and/or foam spray; drives apparatus to emergency scene in event of alarm; receives on-the-job training in firefighting and various technical rescue procedures; conducts inspections and monitors forests when fuel or weather conditions are such that fires can readily ignite, spread rapidly, and do substantial damage, and when risks of fire occurrence are high for example, severity authority, or prevention team activation); provides support to an ongoing all hazard incident, including post-incident administration; performs daily maintenance and checking of personal equipment to ensure readiness for emergency situations; examines apparatus to ensure adequate levels of gasoline, oil, water, foam and chemicals; performs operational checks of apparatus and pumps; ensures emergency rescue vehicle are stocked with necessary equipment and medical supplies; maintains all bio-hazard equipment; performs first aid duties; performs related
duties as required.

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to a moderate amount of lifting equipment, danger of injury or loss of life during firefighting and crash rescue operations and handling of hazardous materials; significant mental stress in responding to life and death emergencies and to strongly disagreeable conditions including exposure to weather, loud noises and hazardous materials.
