PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner this class is accountable for assisting the Chief Medical Examiner in the performance of the daily duties of the Office of the Medical Examiner and assumes responsibility for those duties in his/her absence.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direction of the Chief Medical Examiner.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May apply general supervision to other medical and associated staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assist in investigation of all human deaths relating to violent deaths whether apparently homicidal, suicidal or accidental including but not limited to deaths due to thermal, chemical, electrical or radiational injury and criminal abortion whether self induced or not; sudden or unexpected deaths not caused by readily recognizable disease; deaths under suspicious circumstances; deaths of persons whose bodies are to be cremated, buried at sea or otherwise disposed of; deaths related to disease resulting from employment or accident while employed; deaths related to disease which might constitute a threat to public health; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
In accordance with Section 19a-404 of the General Statutes the Commission in advance of appointments shall specify the qualifications required for each position in terms of educational experience and other relevant considerations.
