PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising Data Entry Operators and activities of a data entry installation.

GUIDELINES FOR JOB CLASS USE

Incumbents must perform in one of the following capacities.
1. Perform routine to complex data entry applications and supervise between 6 and 20 operators.
2. Use multiple systems and more complex data entry applications and supervise as few as 3 operators.
3. Assist in supervision within a large data entry installation with at least 20 full time operators.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general direction of an employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises employees performing data entry operations and related functions.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Supervises employees in operation of and functions related to data entry equipment; plans and prepares production schedules; assigns work; keeps time and production records; insures effective utilization and maintenance of equipment; monitors and initiates changes in work flow in order to provide most efficient service; sets up or revises screen format or new applications as required; commands and monitors equipment; reviews work for accuracy; establishes training procedures and trains employees in equipment operations, procedures and related functions; ensures efficiency and productivity of work performed; supervises operation of other data entry and related equipment and operates equipment as required; may evaluate, develop, establish and implement new methods and procedures; may coordinate activities of other shifts; may be accountable for supervising operators or other data entry personnel at remote locations; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of applications, functions and procedures related to area and specific equipment; knowledge of electronic data processing including storage and/or retrieval and input and/or output media; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; considerable skill in operating data entry and related equipment; ability to maintain records; supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years' experience in data entry operations above the Trainee level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General experience must have been as a Data Entry Operator 2 or its equivalent.
