PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Consumer Protection, Division of Drug Control this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor responsible for the monitoring of drug, cosmetic and device distribution systems for compliance with state laws and regulations and investigating diversion and other illegal activities within drug, cosmetic and device distribution systems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives general direction from the Consumer Protection Drug Control Division Director or other administrator of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Leads Drug Control Agents.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Coordinates unit workflow and determines priorities; schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work; establishes and maintains unit procedures; provides staff training and assistance; conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; may make recommendations on policies or standards; may prepare reports and correspondence; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of composition and appearance of legal and illegal drugs and use and abuse; considerable knowledge of inspection and investigative procedures and methods; considerable knowledge of prescribing, dispensing and administration of drugs; considerable knowledge of quality control procedures of pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, laboratories and hospitals; knowledge of principles, practices and methods of institutional and commercial pharmacy practice; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; ability to make independent judgements; ability to conduct effective educational programs; some supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of experience in the monitoring, investigation and control of drug, cosmetic and device distribution systems.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license as a registered Pharmacist in Connecticut.
  2. Incumbents in this class may be required to work evenings, nights and weekends.
  3. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  4. Candidates for this class are subject to selection standards pursuant to 7-294-a-e and the regulations of the Municipal Police Training Academy.

CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the checking of references and of facts in the application a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be conducted before persons are certified for permanent appointment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A physical examination may be required; incumbents in this class must have normal color vision.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some danger of injury or probability of physical harm in performing the duties of the class.
