PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

At the Connecticut Marketing Authority's Regional Market, this class is accountable for independently performing tasks of a skilled nature (i.e. requiring prior experience or training below the level of a specialized trades journeyman which would give the incumbent proficiency in required knowledges, skills and abilities on the first day of the job.)

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of the Building Superintendent or Director of Connecticut Marketing Authority.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May lead/supervise Connecticut Marketing Authority Maintainers 1's or other lower level employees as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Participates in custodial/housekeeping duties as outlined in the Connecticut Marketing Authority Maintainer 1 specification; operates and makes repairs on complex equipment used at the market; performs skilled tasks in construction, maintenance and repair as a painter, plasterer, carpenter, electrician, mason or comparable trades person; keeps records and makes reports; checks gauges and reads meters; repairs roads, concrete stairs, platforms and walls; welds metal stairs and railings; repairs damaged pipes on outside walls; functions as working lead for cleaning and maintenance of the Regional Market; trains Connecticut Marketing Authority Maintainer 1's in the more complex duties of the position; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of building custodial work and grounds maintenance; considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment, materials and procedures of the specific trade or work area concerned; knowledge of maintenance problems and their proper handling; skill in the manual and machine operations of the trade or work area; interpersonal skills; ability to follow written or oral instructions; ability to keep records; instructional ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of experience in one of the skilled trades or in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
2. A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in the class are subject to some danger of injury from trucks backing into platform areas and to some disagreeable conditions such as odors from decaying garbage and dead animals.
