In a large college bookstore (Norwalk and Tunxis Community Colleges), this class is accountable for the operation of a bookstore and supervision of employees.
Supervises a system of inventory control; anticipates and analyzes needs and is responsible for the purchase of all merchandise to be sold; determines selling prices and controls obsolescence; directs the maintenance of financial and personnel records; schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans store work; establishes and maintains store procedures; develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards; acts as liaison with other departments, agencies and others regarding store policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; performs related duties as required.
Considerable knowledge of principles and methods of retail purchasing and merchandising; considerable knowledge of stocking and inventory control methods; considerable oral and written communications skills; interpersonal skills; ability to utilize computer software; supervisory ability.
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in a working lead capacity at or above the level of Bookstore Assistant Supervisor.
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
This replaces the existing specification for the class of Bookstore Supervisor 2 in Salary Group AR 23 approved effective July 1, 1011. (2012 SCOPE Review)
