PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

This class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks involved in shaving and cutting the hair of clients/patients.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May lead/supervise lower level employees as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Cuts hair and shaves clients/patients in the barber shop and/or on the wards;
  • Sharpens, adjusts, cleans and sterilizes razors, clippers, scissors and other equipment;
  • Keeps records of all barber services provided to clients/patients;
  • Requisitions and maintains stock of barber supplies;
  • Cleans work area;
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply barbering skills and techniques

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Possession of a current Master Barber license issued by the Department of Public Health.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be exposed to communicable diseases and to risk of injury from clients/patients.
