In a state agency or facility this class is accountable for providing clinical social work services to a limited number of agency clients under the guidance of a licensed clinical social worker.
Works under the clinical supervision of a licensed clinical social worker of higher grade; works under the administrative supervision of a Supervising Clinician; initially works under the close supervision of a licensed clinical social worker; works more independently with acquired experience.
Provides clinical social work services to agency clients initially under close supervision and receives guidance in social work practice in preparing to meet licensure requirements; participates as a member of a treatment team; participates in or develops psychosocial assessments through clinical interviews with assigned clients and families; participates in developing treatment plan, preparing discharge summaries and providing client treatment; advocates for clients and develops resources to assist clients in meeting identified needs; writes interpretive reports on condition and progress of patients and/or clients; makes clinical observations of behavior of patients and/or clients; performs individual and group counseling as well as other psychotherapeutic services under supervision; prepares assigned client research and reading activities; performs a greater number of specific and complex clinical social work duties and maintains a larger caseload as skills are acquired; performs related duties as required.
Knowledge of social work methodology, casework, group work and community mobilization; knowledge of family and interpersonal relationship dynamics; knowledge of values, sanctions, purposes and ethics of professional social work; knowledge of social, cultural, economic, medical, psychological and legal issues which influence attitudes and behaviors of clients and families; knowledge of mental illnesses and approaches to treatment; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to devise and implement an appropriate client treatment plan.
This class is intended to permit agencies to employ Clinical Social Workers who are engaged in the process of obtaining state licensure. Full time incumbents of this class will normally fullfil experience requirements for licensure and complete the examination within two years. Extensions may be granted for up to a third year for full time incumbents. An incumbent may be appointed to this class for a period not to exceed three years. No exceptions or extensions beyond the three years will be granted.
Incumbents who obtain State of Connecticut licensure as a clinical social worker are eligible to be slotted to the class of Clinical Social Worker. Salary adjustments will be made utilizing the round up method.
