PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Connecticut Lottery Corporation, Sales and Marketing Department this class is accountable for maximizing telephone sales of Lottery products to established retail accounts.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the supervision of an employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May lead lower level clerical employees as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Markets instant and online lottery products by telephone;
  • Develops a positive business partnership with retailers in assigned sales territory through regularly scheduled telephone calls to established retail accounts;
  • Monitors instant ticket allocation levels to ensure appropriate order, quantity and product mix by reviewing inventory records and on-line activity;
  • Recommends orders to retailers;
  • Mandates settlement for sold packs of tickets reducing outstanding monies due corporation;
  • In conjunction with a Lottery Representative advises retailers to maximize sales through introduction of new games, incentives and promotions;
  • Assists retailers with sales procedures for all Lottery products;
  • Promotes winner awareness;
  • Encourages retailers to utilize in store promotions;
  • Answers retailer questions concerning Lottery policies, procedures, rules and regulations;
  • Provides accurate and timely information regarding Lottery activities;
  • Maintains effective communication with field sales personnel to apprise of retailer concerns and issues;
  • Participates in sales meetings, training seminars and special events;
  • May conduct market surveys;
  • May assist Lottery Representatives in territories as assigned;
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of experience in telemarketing, sales or a closely related field.

NOTE: Sales is defined as having direct responsibility for servicing established accounts and/or contacting prospects to promote products for a company. Examples of acceptable experience include the sale of grocery products to supermarkets, the sale of liquor, beer, soft drinks, etc. to stores and restaurants or promoting incentive and other sales programs to retailers. Examples of unacceptable experience include route sales involving only merchandise delivery, the sale of insurance or real estate, or experience as a sales clerk or cashier in a store, restaurant or other enterprise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • College training with coursework in marketing or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
  • One (1) year of experience as a Processing Technician within Retailer Services in the Connecticut Lottery Corporation may be substituted for the General Experience.

APPOINTMENT

This class has been designated as an entrepreneurial sales class pursuant to Section 12-802 of the Connecticut General Statutes. The Connecticut Lottery Corporation shall determine whether applicants are qualified to fill positions in this class.
