PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection this class is accountable for performing a full range of basic technical data work involving data collection, calculations, and data compilation or performing a full range of basic land survey work such as data collection, calculation, plotting, and acting as rodperson.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Initially works under the close supervision of an engineer or other technical employee of higher rank; works more independently with acquired experience.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Provides basic technical support to an engineering or land surveying unit;
  • Gathers, researches, organizes, compiles, modifies, and performs basic analysis of technical data and other materials, (i.e., finding or determining number or data relationships, projections, and classifications according to established formula or procedure) for use in technical engineering studies, reports, and programs;
  • Identifies potential environmental violations, permit needs, or other problem areas;
  • Organizes, maintains, and revises data, files, and records;
  • Responds to requests for technical data and other information and assists others in locating these as needed;
  • Reads and interprets charts, maps, drawings, and other materials;
  • In the course of data analysis, maintenance, manipulation and organization, may operate automated equipment;
  • May assist in the preparation of visual aids (i.e. maps, charts, graphs, diagrams) and prepares simple visuals;
  • May prepare summaries and provide other information on expenditures from an assigned account;
  • May be assigned field work such as assisting in land surveys, collecting field data, project inspection, serving as rodperson, providing basic information at field meetings, and performing routine maintenance and/or calibration of instruments;
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of experience related to engineering or surveying work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

Graduation from high school or possession of General Educational Development (GED) certification with courses in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry or mechanical drawing may be substituted for the General Experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury or physical harm from survey/engineering environments and a moderate degree of discomfort form exposure to year-round weather conditions.

COMPENSATION GUIDELINES

  • The classification of Environmental Protection Engineering Aide 1 is assigned to Salary Group ES 11a.
  • Employees shall proceed through that salary group and then shall proceed to the maximum salary of Salary Group ES 12.
  • The Job Code is identified as Salary Plan EE in CORE-CT.
