PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Commission on Culture and Tourism this class is accountable for administering the programs and operations of the Tourism Division.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives executive direction from the Executive Director of the Commission on Culture and Tourism.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Administers the programs and operations of the Tourism Division; directs all staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Administers the staff and operations of the Tourism Division; develops, implements and evaluates division policies, goals and objectives; designs and develops division programs and activities; implements new procedures and procedural revisions; determines appropriate staffing levels and directs management and coordination of staff; designs and implements performance review standards for division staff; prepares division budget; maintains contacts with individuals within and outside of division who might impact on policy or program activities; interprets and administers pertinent laws; serves as state tourism representative at local, statewide, national and international organizations and events; represents Executive Director on various boards, commissions and other groups; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques; considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of tourism marketing and promotion; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Ten (10) years professional experience in tourism, marketing, public relations or business management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in a managerial capacity involving tourism.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
1. College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
2. A Master's degree in accounting, business administration or public administration may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
