Acts as the Governor’s Chief of Military Staff, with the rank of Lieutenant General, and administers and directs the activities of the Military Department.
Acts under the general direction of the Governor in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the military.
Formulates basic policies, subject to Governor’s approval, and plans programs and operations necessary for the training and administration of the military establishment; organizes and directs work projects as required in the maintenance and control of all military property and inspects military facilities regularly; directs the training and discipline of military personnel and inspects troops regularly; issues commissions, compiles a register of rational guard and militia and manages the recruitment of nation guard personnel; directs the maintenance of all necessary records and the preparation of required reports; confers with members of the National Military Establishment on military matters, and confers regularly with staff in planning and coordinating operations.
Appointed by the Governor in accordance with Section 27-19 of the Connecticut General Statutes. The Adjutant General must have had at least ten (10) years commissioned service in the armed forces of the United States, and may not serve after reaching the age of sixty-four (64) years.
