In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for directing, developing and maintaining the medical program of a state training school.
Receives administrative direction from the Developmental Services Training School Director, Developmental Services Assistant Director of Resources or other administrative official of higher grade.
Directs medical staff of the institution.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Directs staff and operations of medical program of facility including medical care for individuals and specialized medical services to employees such as dental clinic, x-ray units, diagnostic laboratory, pharmacy and physical and occupational therapy;
Coordinates, plans and manages medical staff activities;
Develops and implements policies and regulations;
Implements new procedures and procedural revisions;
Interprets and administers pertinent laws, statutes and regulations;
Develops and maintains medical program budget;
Designs and implements performance review standards for staff;
Advises Director in selection of medical staff including physicians, dentists, nurses, technicians and hospital ancillary personnel;
Arranges for medical and surgical consultation services;
Stimulates medical research;
Develops and supervises medical intern and residency training programs including direct teaching responsibilities involved;
Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;
Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of
and ability to apply management principles and practices;
principles and practices of medicine involving care and treatment of individuals with an intellectual disability;
oral and written communication skills;
skill in diagnosis, surgery and treatment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience as a physician in the care and treatment of individuals with an intellectual disability.
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut. A temporary license shall exist for a period not to exceed one year.
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
