Founded in 2005, the ACFJC collaborates with over 45 law enforcement, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to ensure safety and healing for victims of interpersonal violence through comprehensive, coordinated, culturally sensitive and accessible services, including: victim and witness assistance; legal advocacy; domestic violence and sexual assault counseling; restraining order assistance; safety planning; children's counseling; parenting support; shelter/housing assistance; benefits assistance and enrollment; Safe at Home application assistance; self-sufficiency services, professional development, resume writing and interviewing skills; criminal justice information and assistance; and clinical mental health services through the Trauma Recovery Center. 

The California Victim Compensation Board administers the Trauma Recovery Center program under the authority of Government Code section 13963.1.  To be designated a “Trauma Recovery Center” applicants must be able to provide all the following resources, treatments, and recovery services to crime victims:

             Mental health treatment services

•             Assertive community-based outreach and clinical case management

•             Coordination of care among medical and mental health care providers, law enforcement agencies, victim service providers and other social service agencies

•             Services to family members and loved ones of homicide victims

•             A multidisciplinary staff of clinicians that includes licensed psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. These clinicians can be either salaried or contract positions.

In 2016, The Alameda County Family Justice Center became the first non-hospital in California to receive the Trauma Recovery Center (“TRC”) designation.  That designation was renewed in 2018.

To meet the TRC’s on-site mental health treatment services requirement, the District Attorney has partnered with community-based non-profits Jewish Family and Community Services (“JFCS”) to implement a mental health treatment program at the Family Justice Center.  The District Attorney is currently recruiting for a Social Worker III to be part of the TRC team.

DESCRIPTION

Work Location: 

This assignment is with the Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) at the Alameda County Family Justice Center which is a Division of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.

Job Description: 

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is recruiting for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to work with our Trauma Recovery Center Team at the Alameda County Family Justice Center (“ACFJC”). Applicants for this position must be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with trauma informed care experience who conducts outreach, assessment, case management and psychotherapy services with clients and brings a trauma informed, cultural humility lens to each aspect of these services. 

TRC Clinicians must have training and expertise in the assessment and treatment of acute trauma and poly-victimization, along with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders and personality disorders.

Must have the flexibility to work with a wide variety of clients. For example: recent victims of violent crimes, survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, elder abuse, violent acts of crime, surviving families of homicide victims.

Responsibilities: 

Performs information and referral services; identifies and assesses individual client's need for services available in the community or the Agency; including but not limited to Domestic Violence, Mental Health and other Alcohol and Drug services, health care and/or In-Home Support Services; may act as a liaison with other staff in clarifying client's needs and facilitating referrals to available resources based on knowledge of all Social Services and/or Health Care Services and community programs. 

Provides time-limited individual, group, or family psychotherapy to adult clients, utilizing trauma informed, culturally competent, and evidence-based treatment models.

Makes mandated reports to appropriate agencies on cases of suspected child, elder, and dependent abuse or neglect.  

Maintains a caseload of 15-18 clients.

Provides triage, case management, and assertive outreach to Trauma Recovery Center clients. 

Assists clients in court, mediation, and with restraining orders. 

Assists clients with applying for State Victim of Crime funds. 

Attends clinical, collaborative, and program related meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Possession of a master’s degree or doctoral degree, in social welfare, psychology, social/human services or other behavioral science, awarded by an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed or licensed-eligible in the state of California (registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology)

    And
  • 3 years of clinical experience providing care to a diverse, vulnerable population of clients.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices, and techniques of social work, psychotherapy, or psychology.
  • Provisions of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, the Social Security Act, and other pertinent legislation in the field of public welfare, including changes and developments in such legislation. 
  • Trends, standards, and terminology of trauma-informed mental health care.
  • Psychological theory and practices as related to human behavior. 
  • Public and private social agencies and other community resources.

Ability to: 

  • Analyze and evaluate individual situations, to reach sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Interpret complex Federal and State laws, rules and regulations and procedures.
  • Analyze basic statistics and calculate mathematic computations.
  • Apply casework principles and concepts. 
  • Secure accurate social and personal data and record such data systematically. 
  • Utilize community resources in a medical care program. 
  • Establish and maintain effective and professional casework relationships. 
  • Work effectively with others. 
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Pass Live Scan background check.
  • Problem solve and adapt to different care delivery systems during the pandemic and beyond.
