THIS IS A NEW PROMOTIONAL
ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting
from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately
one year but can be extended. Qualified applicants must be current
county employees and have completed the equivalent of six months (by 10/7/22) of continuous
service following a regular appointment in the Alameda County classified
service (non-classified includes the District Attorney’s Office, the Alameda County Medical
Center, and the Superior Court) by 5:00 p.m. on the last day for filing. A
regular appointment does not include provisional, TAP (Temporary Assignment
Pool), or STEP-UP appointments.
A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. Failure to submit the Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification. Postmarks are not accepted. Applications will only be accepted on-line.
The Department:
The Risk Management Unit of the County Administrator's Office is currently seeking to fill a vacancy for the position of Risk Analyst. The County Administrator is responsible for the implementation of policies and decisions of the Board of Supervisors. The County Administrator's Office is composed of six units that provide and oversee programs serving the entire County. These units include Intergovernmental Affairs and Civic Engagement, Budget and Finance, Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, East Bay Economic Development Alliance, and Risk Management.
Risk Management provides integrated loss prevention and control services for the County's operational risks. This mission is carried out through employee training and programs in the areas of Workers' Compensation, employee wellness and occupational health services, safety and loss control, property and liability claims administration, the purchase of insurance and the management of self insurance programs, and risk assessment and consulting services to County departments. The Position:
The Risk Analyst plans, coordinates, and evaluates safety programs for County employees; assists in the review and risk assessment of County contracts and operations, develops and implements loss prevention strategies and does related work as required.
This position is located in the Risk Management Unit of the County Administrator's Office. It is distinguished from the class of Senior Risk and Insurance Analyst in that it is focused upon the areas of employee safety, risk assessment, and in loss prevention assists the in other Risk Management program areas.
The Ideal Candidate:
In addition to the minimum qualifications and knowledge and skills listed below, ideal candidates for this position will possess considerable experience in highly technical areas which include, safety and insurance programs, accident prevention, occupational health, construction risk, workers’ compensation and claims management. Ideal candidates will also exemplify the following critical attributes for success:
• The ability to identify and understand complex problems and concepts, apply logical thinking and quantitative methods to gathering and analyzing information, make decisions and exercise good judgment based on available data, design solutions to problems, and formulate and articulate action plans proactively and collaboratively.
• The ability to work independently and take prompt action to accomplish objectives, and a willingness to identify issues and address them proactively.
• Successfully utilizing computer applications in order to maximize the effectiveness of business operations and adapt to the latest technological trends.
• Planning, organizing and prioritizing work activities and the ability to manage several tasks at once.
• Political astuteness, possessing the skills necessary for identifying, navigating and successfully interacting within the dynamics of the organization while maintaining sensitivity to the competing needs of a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• Strategic planner with a sound understanding of designing, developing and implementing programmatic modifications based on legislative changes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage Third Party Administrator and vendor contracts
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of in various technical areas of Risk Management.
