Qualified applicants must be current county employees and have completed the equivalent of six months of continuous service following a regular appointment in the Alameda County classified service (non-classified includes the District Attorney’s Office, the Medical Center, and the Superior Court) by Monday,March 16, 2020 .A regular appointment does not include provisional, TAP (Temporary Assignment Pool), or STEP-UP appointments.

THE POSITION
Under close supervision, the Agricultural and Standards Investigator I conducts consumer protection inspections for the weights and measures unit of the Agriculture/Weight and Measures Department. This position assures equity in the market place, protects people and the environment by enforcing state and federal laws and regulations, conducts routine inspections, and investigates consumer complaints. The Agricultural and Standards Investigator I assists in inspecting commercial weighing and measuring devices including scales, gasoline pumps, price verification systems, taxi meters, and electric meters. The Agricultural and Standards Investigator I may also inspect packaged commodities for accuracy of weight, measure, or count. Work may include inspection of parcel facilities, the control and prevention of vertebrate, weed, and insect pests, and monitoring the use of pesticides or other agricultural activities. Responsibilities may also include public relations, record keeping, environmental review, and preparation of required reports and other duties as need.
