The scores and dispositions of candidates for this examination will be merged with previous exam participants. If you have previously submitted an application and choose to reapply, your new score/disposition will replace your current disposition.
Application and Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. Failure to submit the supplemental questionnaire will result in disqualification.

The Position:
Under close supervision, incumbents in this class perform key support functions in the Human Resource Services Department that require specialized knowledge of Civil Service procedures and practices that affect countywide personnel transactions, civil service examinations and selection activities. Human Resource Assistants perform work of moderate difficulty in providing specialized operational support in a fast paced and highly confidential environment with competing deadlines.
The Ideal Candidate:
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications below, successful candidates will have a proven track record providing varying levels of operational and administrative support, preferably in a human resources environment. Successful candidates will possess the ability to successfully;
- Either I
The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in the class of Clerk II or in an equivalent or higher level clerical class in the Alameda County classified service (non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts) that includes working with databases and experience working with personnel policies, procedures and practices.
- OR II
The equivalent of three years of full-time clerical experience that includes working with databases and experience working with personnel policies, procedures and practices.
Special Requirement:
All candidates must be able to utilize an alphanumeric keyboard at the speed of not less than 40 words per minute.

The most suitably qualified candidates must possess the following competencies:
Knowledge of:
• Specialized program knowledge of work requiring the application of a variety of rules, procedures, codes and systems. A minimum of six months to one year of specialized on-the-job training is necessary to acquire specialized knowledge
• Operation of office machines and equipment, including personal computers and word processing and spreadsheet software
• Modern office practices and procedures including business correspondence and filing
