Applicants for this position are required to submit a legal writing sample along with responses to the following supplemental questions.  Your legal writing sample and completed responses to the supplemental questionnaire will be evaluated to determine your qualifications and must be completed properly in order to be given full consideration for the next phase in the selection process.  The answers you provide may be used to verify minimum qualification and/or to evaluate for selection of best-qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the oral interview process.

Responses should be thorough and specific.  A lack of detail and explanation in the supplemental questions and in your application may result in failure or disqualification for this position.  Clarity of expression, content, experience, grammar, spelling and the ability to follow instructions will be considered in the evaluation process.  A resume will not be accepted as a substitute for properly completed responses.

Information provided in your responses to the supplemental questionnaire regarding your employment experiences must also be detailed in the Work Experience section of the application for this recruitment.  Please be sure to list all employers and required information, on your application, especially if you are referencing those employers in your responses to the supplemental questions.

Summarize the extent of your litigation experience.  Include the type of cases, length of trials, jury or not, whether you have experience in the first-chair, and outcomes.  If you have extensive experience with trial work, summarize a representative sample, highlighting the scope of your authority for case strategy decision-making and level of responsibility.

 

 

Summarize your background handling employment and/or labor litigation, including any experience with labor arbitration. 

 

Summarize the scope of advice and counsel responsibilities you have had in labor and employment work, and include whether any of your work was for public entity clients.

 

If you have provided legal advice to a public entity, including in fields such as land use, zoning, real estate, public works or redevelopment, briefly summarize the scope of your work and experience in each area, highlighting levels of increasing responsibility and number of years working in the area.

 

If not included above, summarize any significant case work you have handled involving constitutional law questions, excessive force cases, and dangerous condition of public property cases, including any work at the appellate court level, state or federal.

 

Summarize the extent of your experience supervising attorneys and support staff, and handling law office administrative responsibilities.

 

You are required to submit, along with your application and supplemental questionnaire, a legal writing sample (e.g. an opinion or legal analysis of an unusual problem, trial brief, points and authorities, etc.).  This sample should demonstrate your ability to research and analyze legal issues and be primarily YOUR work, not work heavily edited by another.
