DESCRIPTION

This flexibly-staffed class series specification describes the journey level of the Audio Visual (AV) classification series.  Incumbents of this classification, under general supervision, lead the maintenance and installation of a wide range of video conferencing and integrated multimedia equipment in the County’s boardrooms and meeting rooms; lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of audio visual and related systems; and perform related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This flexibly-staffed class series specification describes two levels of the Audio Visual classifications located in the Information Technology Department (ITD). The Senior Audio Visual Engineer reports to an Infrastructure Services Manager. Incumbents are responsible for performing duties of an analytical and technical nature relating to the design, support and maintenance of AV and related systems, and leading projects within those systems. 

The class of Senior AV Engineer is distinguished from the lower-level Audio Visual (AV) Engineer in that the former is responsible for the planning of AV system design and enterprise solutions and works on projects as a team lead, and the latter focuses on analysis and technical support for equipment, related software, and video conference meetings. The Senior AV Engineer is further distinguished from the lower-level AV Engineer by having responsibility to direct and oversee the work of the AV Engineer.  


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE:  The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification.  However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.  Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

  1. Provides technical leadership and coaching to AV team members; recommends AV training programs targeting specific areas of improvement.
  2. Provides support for AV and related technologies and services, including operating equipment for meetings and events as needed and providing support for video conference meetings using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.
  3. Manages the AV systems in the County Board Chamber. Ensures the systems are up and functioning properly. Serves as the operational point of contact for the vendor partner supporting the Board Chambers.
  4. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves high severity issues or problems escalated by senior management.
  5. Conducts site surveys with customers to assess their system requirements, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations for system configurations and equipment.
  6. Provides training, documentation, and operation assistance to users; assists clients over telephone, video and/or client site.
  7. Monitors and manages the AV and video conference systems to ensure maximum availability and performance.
  8. Creates customer and diagnostic reports; maintains inventory of hardware and software; inventory tracking.
  9. Creates and maintains system procedural and technical documentation including project statuses and adding sufficient resolution notes to assigned tickets.
  10. Leads the planning, recommendation, and implementation of changes to the AV system platforms, system hardware, associated software, and related technologies in support of organizational goals.
  11. Updates, upgrades AV software as needed to ensure they are performing to desired business needs.
  12. Manages AV vendors for project and support activities, reviews vendor proposals, and participates in analysis and preparation of new vendor contracts as needed.
  13. Analyzes and reports on key metrics and key performance indicator’s (KPI).
  14. Keeps current on industry trends and technology; conducts internal and external analysis, translating information and industry trends into actionable items and recommendations for improved service.
  15. Assist with other technical duties and projects as needed.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EITHER I  

Experience:  

The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in the class of Audio Visual Engineer in the Alameda County classified service.

OR II  

Education:  

Possession of 90 quarter units or 60 semester units, in which 20 quarter units or 14 semester units are in audio engineering, media production, or another related field.  

AND  

Experience:  

The equivalent of three (3) years of audio visual or multimedia, and video conferencing experience, of which two (2) years must include AV system design. (One year of additional experience may substitute for the education requirement listed above.)  

License/Certifications:

  • Possession of an AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification.
  • Possession of an AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist – Design (CTS-D) and/or Certified Technology Specialist – Installation (CTS-I) is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid California State Motor Vehicle Operator’s license is preferred.  

Special Requirements:

  • Must be available to work after hours, weekends and holidays.
