DESCRIPTION
|
Under general direction, to assist in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Probation Department including the implementation of management policies and service delivery programs and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This class exercises full authority for making decisions and implementing programs to ensure the effective provision of administrative, financial and analytical services to the Probation Department. This position is also responsible for other activities including program planning and evaluation, financial planning and analysis, personnel, management analysis, and contract/grants management. Incumbents report to the Assistant Chief Probation Officer and play a major role in department or agency policy decisions and act for the agency or department head in both administrative and financial matters. |

1. Represents the Probation Department and serves as liaison with other County agencies and departments and agencies in areas of mutual concern; confers with representatives of governmental, business and community organizations and the public; makes presentations to the Board of Supervisors, explains policies, procedures and regulations on complex administrative problems; directs special projects and analyses of the most complex, difficult and sensitive nature. 2. Plans, directs, reviews and evaluates the work of staff, provides for staff development opportunities, recommends the selection of staff, recommends and implements discipline as required. 3. Assists the Chief Probation Officer in making major financial, administrative and policy recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. Under the general direction of the Chief Probation Officer, oversees the preparation of the annual budget message and other financial reports as requested. Establishes procedural guidelines for financial analysis and reporting. 4. Administers a broad scope of Human Resources, Training, Information Services, Fiscal, Information Technology and Administrative Services including financial planning and analysis, management analysis, and contracts management, building management, operational analysis and program evaluation. 5. Assists the Chief Probation Officer with formulating policy alternatives and decisions. 6. Identifies issues and sources of potential difficulty in Agency administration and management; analyzes, evaluates and originates recommendations to resolve issues. 7. Prepares policies and procedures to implement Board of Supervisors and management decisions. |
