DESCRIPTION
Under direction, to operate process camera in preparation of film negatives and to develop and process negatives through the completed process. Operates desktop publishing hardware and software to design, type set, proofread, layout, create graphics to produce forms, newsletters and other material; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

Incumbents in this classification operate process cameras to prepare negatives for printing or operate desktop publishing hardware and software. The position is located in the Reprographics Division of the Purchasing Department, General Services Agency. Direct supervision is provided by the Assistant Manager, Reprographics.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Operates the process camera prepare line and halftone negatives.

2. Develops, inspects and opaques film negatives.

3. Strips and flats negatives for one and two color printing, including precise registration.

4. Burns and develops metal plates.

5. Makes stats, veloxes and carries out paste-up procedures.

6. Creates and designs newsletters, brochures, forms and other projects from copy and design concepts supplied by others.

7. Accurately typesets and proofreads copy.

8. Operates desktop publishing hardware and software to design and typeset forms, newsletters and other graphics.

9. Scans in, manipulates and retouches photos with appropriate software.

10. Carries out appropriate computer backup procedures, as well as maintains a library, on disk, of forms, logos and related graphics.

11. Troubleshoots computer problems.

12. Provides assistance to ordering departments in the creation and/or design of camera ready art and processes this material for final printing.

13. Keeps accurate time records through keypad system and maintains schedules.

14. Issues requests for materials used in this section and maintains adequate stocks for daily needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The equivalent of two years of experience as a journey-level Camera/Plate Technician or operating desktop publishing software and hardware to create, design and typeset forms, newsletters and other material.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
