DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, serves as a first-line working supervisor of grounds personnel; operates and maintains power mowers, tractors, large trucks, bulldozers, backhoes and other heavy equipment used in keeping parklands mowed and maintained; performs other related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Equipment Operators Foremen are first-line working supervisors over Equipment Operators, Equipment Mechanic and Hourly Equipment Mechanic and/or related grounds personnel assigned to them. The Equipment Operator Foreman and grounds personnel mow lawns and operate other types of power equipment such as wheel tractors with loader and other attachments, bulldozers, dump trucks, vehicles for transporting passengers at special activities. Equipment Operator Foremen differ from the next lower class of Equipment Operator by having on-going supervisory and administrative responsibilities. Equipment Operator Foremen report to the Park Supervisor who has overall responsibility for operation of the grounds division. |
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
1. Supervises employees which may include temporary employees and volunteers in performance of their assigned tasks such as the following: a. Operates power mowers to cut lawn over an extensive area. b. Operates wheel type tractors with attachments and loader, bulldozer. c. May maintain and repair mowers, train, sprayers and related hand and power equipment and light maintenance work of District vehicles. d. Transports passengers for special activities. e. Operates dump truck and hauls trailer with dozer to District facilities. f. Operates rental or related equipment as required. 2. Orders and picks up parts, coordinates with mechanic repairs on equipment. 3. Organizes and plans mowing schedules and tractor schedules for each assignment. 4. May participate in the interview process of applicants for grounds employees, evaluates performance of subordinate employees, handles disciplinary action as needed and makes recommendations to the Supervisor of Parks. 5. Provides instruction and training. 6. Conducts safety meetings regularly and other meetings as necessary or appropriate. 7. Writes and processes work orders and repair orders. 8. Coordinates work schedules, leave time and verifies time sheets. 9. Checks equipment for operation and maintenance. 10. Enforces park rules and regulations. 11. Maintains employee and safety records. |

Knowledge of: • The operation of power mowers, wheel type tractor, dozer, driving truck with trailers and general aspects of mower maintenance, gasoline and diesel motors. • Expert handling of power mower and tractors, both on street and park areas. Ability to: • Follow written and oral instructions. • Plan sequence of mowing operations within the framework of a general grounds maintenance schedule. • Plan work on a day to day basis. • Direct and supervise others in assigned tasks. • Operate tractors and other equipment as needed. • Read and write and clearly speak effectively. • Work courteously and tactfully with the public. • Exhibit a high customer service priority. • Within CALOSHA guidelines, withstand periods of physical exposure to the presence of fumes, odors, dust and pollen without incapacitating adverse effect. • Safely transport, lift and handle bulky objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. |
