Introduction

This is storekeeping and inventory control work.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for performing manual and clerical storekeeping assignments of average difficulty.  Under general supervision, employees receive requests for items, determine availability, and locate and retrieve items from inventory.  Work requires the exercise of some initiative and independent judgment in issuing the proper item or an appropriate substitute.  Some positions might require that the employee work nights and weekends.  Work is reviewed through observation in progress and results obtained.

Examples of Duties

Requisitions and receives various supplies, parts, materials, tools, and equipment such as construction, maintenance, office, or other items utilized by municipal departments; matches contract prices with delivery prices; verifies receipts to ensure correctness of quantity and contents; prepares issue sheets and requisitions to ensure accountability of transactions.

 

Receives requests for materials and supplies; identifies item numbers using manufacturers’ or vendors’ catalogs; determines stock availability; locates and retrieves items from inventory; on automotive parts, records identification numbers, and issues; checks and prepares equipment to verify that equipment is ready for use; ensures maintenance of adequate stock; maintains orderliness of stockroom or storage area.

 

Drives a motor vehicle to deliver supplies and equipment; loads and unloads materials; picks up items when delivery by vendor is not available or convenient.

 

Receive and provide print orders via booklets, pamphlets and other mass copies of instructional inter/intra departmentally used guides; crime prevention practices, EOC, Gasparilla and other special events as required.  This may include the operation of the Rizzo machine for the planned and expedited publication and distribution of all TPD forms. 

 

Represent TPD as the liaison for specific police forms from the state and federal authorities.

 

Act as TPD agent to provide weekly deliveries to all TPD entities at various locations.

 

Assist with set up and breakdown of TPD special events.

 

Provide escort to city personnel and approved vendors into controlled areas.

 

Maintains records, logs, and ledgers related to area of work; prepares necessary data input documents; enters inventory information utilizing computer; utilizes computer system to submit requisitions and retrieve such information as account balances and inventory levels; checks activity account or purchase order number; operates computer, calculator, or adding machine in order to check/verify arithmetic calculation and makes correction within limits of authority.

 

Contacts various vendors to secure bids on items which cost over amounts specified by Purchasing; submits bid to buyer for approval and lets bid upon approval.

 

Performs related work as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of:  standard methods, practices and procedures employed in the storage and issuance of inventory items; records keeping and office practices.

Some knowledge of:  purchasing and requisitioning practices and procedures.

Ability to:  use technical parts manuals and catalogs, when required; understand and follow oral and written instructions and maintain records accurately; perform basic mathematical computations; perform work requiring physical exertion; operate a motor vehicle skillfully and safely; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and one (1) year of experience in the storage and issuance of materials and supplies; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license; a valid Florida commercial driver’s license might be required.

Comments

During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
