DEFINITION

Performs radiological examinations and conducts a variety of tests used in medical diagnosis and treatment.
 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This single position class is characterized by the unique responsibility for conducting a variety of tests used for clinical/medical assessment including X-rays, electrocardiograms, vision tests and audiometer exams. The incumbent provides services to patients of the Outpatient Clinic and works independently under general medical direction.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general direction from the Medical Director.

Examples of Duties

Interprets physician’s orders, sets up and operates the x-ray equipment positioning the patient correctly and selects the proper exposure techniques; develops, fixes and dries x-ray films checking them for quality; sorts developed x-ray films for reading by Clinic Physician or radiologist.
        
Performs vision screening and audiometric testing; sets up and takes electrocardiograms.
        
Establishes and maintains record-keeping systems for each testing procedure; distributes test results and reports in accordance with applicable clinic procedures; prepares routine narrative and/or statistical reports of work activity; transcribes radiology reports.
        
Orders all supplies used in testing procedures; troubleshoots machinery malfunctions and oversees equipment repair and maintenance.
         
Trains and schedules work for extra-help employees used to assist and provide relief for x-ray function; assists in transportation, clerical and clinical operations as needed.
 
Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas and keeps abreast of changes in job-related rules, statutes, laws and new business trends; makes recommendations for the implementation of changes; reads and interprets professional literature; attends training programs, workshops and seminars as appropriate.

Methods and techniques of diagnostic radiography including positioning patients, adjusting and operating equipment.

Education and Experience

Experience:
 
Two years of radiologic experience.
 
Education/Training:
 
A High School diploma or GED.
 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license may be required.
Possession of a license as a Certified Radiologic Technologist issued by the State of California.  
  

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Independent travel will be required.
        
Candidates for employment must as a condition of employment sign a statement agreeing to comply with Section 11166 of the California Penal Code relating to child abuse reporting.

Physical Ability Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).  Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.  May involve prolonged standing.
 
Sensory Requirements:  Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities and differences between shade, degree or value of colors, shapes, sounds, forms, textures or physical appearance associated with job-related objects, materials, tasks or people.
 
Environmental Factors:  Requires the ability to work under conditions where exposure to environmental factors poses a moderate risk of moderate injury or illness.
