The Placer County Library is seeking self-motivated individuals with outstanding customer service skills to assist patrons at branches in the Auburn and South Placer area. Flexibility is encouraged as schedules vary. The Library currently has a vacancy for a permanent, full-time assignment. The eligible list established from this recruitment may also be used for future vacancies, either extra-help or permanent, in the Auburn & South Placer area.
Temporary/extra-help assignments are limited to 999 hours (or 960 hours for CalPERS retired annuitants) in a fiscal year.

To perform a variety of clerical duties related to the functions and programs of the library; and to assist the public in finding and checking in and out library materials.
This is the entry-level class in the Library Clerk series. This class is distinguished from the journey level by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series. The Library Clerk-Entry class is distinguished from the journey level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the journey level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.
Receives immediate supervision from supervisory or professional staff. May exercise technical and functional supervision over volunteers.

Experience: No library experience is required. Experience involving frequent public contact in a service or sales capacity and/or familiarity with library operations is desirable.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License or Certificate:
May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.

The written examination may include multiple choice, true/false, fill-in, matching, and/or essay type questions directly related to the required knowledge and abilities for this classification.
The written examination is scheduled for the week of May 21, 2018 in Roseville, CA. Qualified applicants will be notified of the exact date/time of the examination two weeks prior. There will not be alternative or make-up exam date(s) scheduled.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination, which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation, sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation and/or be bonded.
All new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and those in management and confidential groups, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
