Placer County is seeking a detailed graphic designer with strong design and production skills for our fast-paced, in-house print shop. Primary responsibilities include: graphic design of business cards, brochures, postcards, newsletters, training materials, interactive forms, and a wide range of other printed media; development of web and social media graphics; digital photography; and extensive customer interaction.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in Adobe© InDesign Creative Cloud, Photoshop Creative Cloud, Illustrator Creative Cloud, Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office; comfortable in either Macintosh or PC computer systems; and able to accurately manage our digital files. This candidate must also possess considerable verbal, written and visual communication skills; be a self-starter who can independently manage multiple and conflicting responsibilities; develop innovative, creative, and cost-effective designs; and administer the County’s brand identity. Previous experience working in a print production environment is highly desirable.
Please note that the classification of Central Services Technician is a broad classification title and incumbents are typically assigned to either mail services, print services or graphic design. The duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the sections below reflect all assignments; however, the current graphic designer vacancy may not necessarily perform all items listed in these sections.
The Placer County print shop currently has one vacancy, however, this list may be used to fill other graphic design vacancies as they arise.

To operate a variety of reprographic equipment including offset presses and xerographic copiers, pre-press desk-top publishing and other specialized equipment; perform the most complex and varied printing assignments; and perform the most complex Central Services operations.
This is the journey level class within the Central Services Worker series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Central Services Worker class by the performance of the more technical or complex duties assigned including operation of the more advanced printing or pre-press, or desk top publishing equipment in performing the most technical, complex and varied printing assignments and knowledge of the full range of all equipment and procedures used. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
This class is distinguished from the Senior Central Services Technician in that the latter is a lead position, providing technical and functional supervision.
Receives general supervision from the Central Services Supervisor and technical and functional supervision from the Senior Central Services Technician.
It is the responsibility of applicants to identify in their application materials how they meet the minimum qualifications listed below.
Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a variety of offset printing, desk-top publishing, graphic design, bindery and/or mail processing equipment.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional specialized training in graphic arts, desk-top publishing and/or a related field is desirable.
License or Certificate:
May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
NOTE: If needed, an additional screening will be conducted to select the best qualified candidates for this recruitment. Best qualified consideration will be given to those applicants who demonstrate graphic design experience using Macintosh and/or PC platforms with Adobe© Creative Cloud Software.

Training & Experience Rating (100%)
Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination, which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation, sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation and/or be bonded.
All new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and those in management and confidential groups, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
