To plan, organize and direct the activities of the Traffic Sign Maintenance Section within the Public Works Department; to coordinate Section activities with other divisions or departments; and to provide highly responsible technical support to the Assistant Road Superintendent and Road Superintendent.
The Senior Supervisor level recognizes positions that provide full second-line, direct supervision to employees within a work section and/or assumes substantive and significant programmatic responsibility in a defined area or specialty.
Receives general direction from the Assistant Road Superintendent and Road Superintendent.
Exercises direct supervision over supervisory, technical and maintenance personnel.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Participate in and perform complex and difficult traffic sign manufacture, repair and installation activities, including silk screening, sign painting, operation of pavement striping machine and layout of traffic signs.

Set safe speed for curve warning signs; inspect work in progress and upon completion.

Supervise the sign shop, sign storeroom and yard; patrol and inspect County roads and streets to determine need for new installation and repair of signs and pavement markers; maintain record of County signs and markings installed and serviced.

When assigned, oversee contractors or staff maintaining of traffic signals and related control devices.

Recommend and implement section goals and objectives; establish performance standards and methods for traffic sign manufacture and maintenance operations; develop and implement policies and procedures.

Plan, develop and oversee the work of staff involved in traffic sign manufacture, repair and installation.

Evaluate operations and activities of assigned unit; implement improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.

Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for personnel, supplies and equipment; monitor and control expenditures.

Participate in the selection of staff; coordinate staff training; conduct performance evaluations; recommend discipline; implement discipline procedures as directed.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.

Perform related duties as assigned.
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in traffic sign manufacture, repair and installation, including two years of supervisory responsibility.
Training: Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or construction technology, industrial art and design, or a related field.
Required License or Certificate:

Possession of a valid Class B driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements. Hazardous materials endorsement may be required depending upon the position.

May need to possess a valid Class A driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements as required depending upon the position.

Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
