Nature of Work

This is skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, and/or off-road heavy equipment requiring basic technical ability as this relates to engines and major assembly rebuilding.  Employees in this class are in training on maintenance procedures and will work closely with experienced mechanics upon entry to the job.  Employees are assigned basic repair work and progress up to more complicated maintenance work.  Employees exercise a low amount of independent judgment concerning methods of repair until they are trained in the more difficult maintenance work.  This position reports to a Service Manager and works under the guidance of a Master Mechanic.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED certificate.  Three (3) years experience in troubleshooting and repairing gas and diesel engines, automobile and/or light to medium sized vehicles and equipment or graduation from a technical school in diesel and gasoline equipment repair and one (1) year of vehicle or equipment maintenance experience. 

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a current Alabama Driver's License and have an insurable driving record and a Commercial Driver's License (Class A), from the State of Alabama.  Willing to work after normal work hours to respond to emergencies.  Willing to work in bad weather conditions to perform repair work in the field.  

Kind of Examination
