Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform intermediate level electrical tasks at City owned properties.  The work responsibilities of the position are: installs coaxial cable;  repairs, replaces and/or installs  a variety of electrical systems in city buildings and facilities; supervises and trains lower level Electricians; assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of ballfield lighting, electrical systems and equipment; and performs various other departmental administrative duties.  The Electrician II receives supervision from the Maintenance Shop Supervisor and Building Construction Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D. and three (3) years of experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license.  Some positions in this classification may require possession of a valid Alabama Commercial Driver's License (Class A) to drive a bucket truck.  Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to perform electrical related tasks in the case of special events and emergencies.  Ability to be on-call as needed to respond to electrical related emergencies.  

Kind of Examination

Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
