Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to plan, install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems in County owned buildings. The essential functions of this position include: troubleshoots and repairs HVAC systems; installs/replaces small HVAC systems in County buildings; supervises employees, and performs administrative work. The HVAC Specialist receives direct supervision from the Plant Maintenance Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

Five (5) years of experience in installing, maintaining and repairing HVAC systems and one (1) year lead worker experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ACCA Refrigerant Recovery Certification, Universal approval required.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license as needed to drive County vehicles. Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed to complete HVAC projects. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements such as working in extreme heat while repairing HVAC systems during summer months and working in extreme cold while repairing these systems during winter months.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Riding in truck for long periods of time, working outside for long periods of time, working in small confined spaces, working in high areas.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Digging, walking, climbing, lifting objects over 50 pounds assisted and unassisted, squatting, bending and crawling as needed to perform installations, repairs and maintenance of HVAC systems in county buildings and facilities.
