Nature of Work

The Assistant Chief Probate Clerk is responsible for coordinating and advancing the work of the Probate Judge in conjunction with the Chief Probate Clerk. The Assistant Chief Clerk supports the Chief Clerk to ensure that the Probate Judge is able to carry out the duties of the office in an efficient, effective, and ethical manner. The Assistant Chief Probate Clerk provides advice and counsel to the Probate Judge. The incumbent is responsible for implementing decisions made by the Probate Judge.  Responsibilities include providing advice and counsel to the Probate Judge, supervising employees, serving as lead for human resources management, assisting in operations management, assisting with operational budget matters, monitoring financials, keeping abreast of new laws and trends, and initiating and carry out special programs and projects. The wide breadth and scope of the Assistant Chief Probate Clerk position necessitates that the individual holding the position possess the ability to act with a sense of urgency, wield solid, independent judgment, exercise a high degree of good judgment and decision making, and possess the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.  The Assistant Chief Probate Clerk shall undertake representational duties on behalf of the Chief Probate Clerk or the Probate Judge, as deemed necessary. This position reports to the Chief Probate Clerk.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field and four (4) years of complex supervisory or management experience directing regulatory government programs.  Master’s degree preferred. Experience working with government programs related to probate matters (licensing, involuntary commitments, guardianships, conservatorships, adoptions, wills, estates, and property disputes) is preferred.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

 

Special Requirements

Must be bondable by a certified bonding company.  Must be willing to attend conferences or workshops such as continuing education workshops requiring overnight stays.
