Nature of Work

This is professional and technical work in planning, developing and administering the City Parks System. The employee is responsible for planning and supervising large scale, city wide activities which relate to the maintenance and development of park, recreational, and other public grounds. Primary work responsibilities include: supervises two or more employees; oversees the operation of two nurseries and greenhouses; plants and designs ornamental flower and shrub arrangements; oversees the planting and transplanting of flowers; plans, assigns, and supervises new projects; performs administrative duties; plans and makes recommendations for future park development; and coordinates preparation for special events.  The employee reports directly to the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in horticulture or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience in horticulture or landscaping work, to include two (2) years of experience supervising large landscape projects and grounds maintenance.
 
NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
