Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to manage the animal care operations work including general husbandry of the collections, exhibit facilities maintenance to ensure a professional standard of operations regarding animal health, welfare and conservation.  Work responsibilities of the classification include: supervising, monitoring, and evaluating two or more full-time employees of the animal care staff in the delivery of animal care services; supervising and directing the care of the animals; inspecting and monitoring the facilities and grounds, reporting maintenance and determining repair needs; and contributing to the department objectives. Supervision is exercised on a daily basis over the Assistant General Curator (Zoo), Conservation and Enrichment Manager, Zookeepers, and all involved in the delivery of animal care services and the maintenance of the exhibits and grounds. This classification reports to the Deputy Zoo Director.

Bachelor’s degree in zoology, biology, animal science or a closely related field. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the care and management of animal collections in a zoological park.

May require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen orders, wet, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, violence, disease or pathogenic substances. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
