Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop, implement and monitor a comprehensive museum security program designed to protect and safeguard the facility and its collections and provide a safe environment for visitors and staff.  The essential functions are: supervises two or more full-time employees; conducts inspection of the Museum building and exhibits; monitors electronic security and surveillance equipment and fire control systems; performs administrative and customer service duties; and serves as the Museum liaison with police, fire, alarm companies, security contractors, and other departments and agencies. The Museum Chief Security Officer reports to Assistant Museum Director (Operations).

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.  Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building security management to include experience as a lead worker and/or supervisor. Preference will be given for experience or training in electronic security systems as well as security experience in a museum or cultural setting.  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.




Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.  Must be willing to submit to a thorough background investigation.  Must be willing to work an assigned shift.  Must be willing to work holidays, weekends, nights, and on-call duty as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Physical ability to walk, stand, and remain alert for the duration of the assigned shift as needed to patrol assigned areas and to perform security duties.
