Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to develop and administer museum educational programs for the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.  The Museum Curator I will coordinate generalized art projects such as developing educational programs for gallery walk-throughs and other in-house exhibit items.  This differs from the Museum Curator II position in that the Curator II will coordinate more advanced and specialized projects such as arranging themed art shows and performing art research of a more detailed nature.  The essential functions of this position are: coordinates docent training for the Museum's education program, develops Museum educational programs, coordinates the Museum's educational program tours, and performs administrative duties.  The Museum Assistant is supervised by the Museum Curator III (Education).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Art History, or a related field.  One year of paid full-time teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Art Education teaching experience is preferred.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license.  Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for emergencies and/or special events. Ability to travel as needed to attend off-site Museum sponsored events.  Ability to lift up to 40lbs. of books or other printed materials as needed to transport resource information for educational program development.
