Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to direct junior high/middle school cheerleading activities. Employees also assist the Community Center Director with various programs and center activities at an assigned community center.

The essential functions are: plans, organizes and directs junior high school cheerleading programs; assists with the general operation of the Community Center; maintains accurate and detailed records and files of programs; and plans, organizes and directs other programs and activities at the Community Center.

Employees of this class exercise judgment and initiative in adapting and planning programs to meet the needs and interests of participants within general department guidelines.  Employees in this class are supervised by the Community Center Director.  Serves as acting director in the absence of the director.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalency, preferably supplemented by college courses in recreation or physical education.  At least two years of  experience within the last five years instructing a cheerleading squad at the junior high/middle school level or higher or four  years of experience within the last five years as a cheerleader at the high school level or higher; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

 

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed or required. Must be able to obtain CPR certification through the Red Cross.
