Sign and Paint Superintendent (#CI5101)

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to manage the Sign and Paint Division of the Traffic Engineering Department.  Work involves designing, planning, implementing, and overseeing projects within the division.  The work performed in this classification is distinguished from the next lower classification by the supervisory responsibility as well as the requirement of a greater depth and breath of knowledge concerning traffic maintenance design, techniques, and implementation. Primary work responsibilities may include: managing the operations of the Sign and Paint Division; performing technical traffic maintenance work; supervising two or more full-time subordinate supervisors and/or employees; and performing essential administrative duties.  Work is performed under general supervision of the Director of Traffic Engineering.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and five years of experience performing street striping and signing operations to include designing traffic control plans, installing street striping, and designing, manufacturing, and installing signs.  Two of the five years of experience must be at the level of a Traffic Maintenance Worker III to include supervising subordinate employees and preparing complex reports and cost estimates.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

  


Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as needed to operate a city vehicle to conduct work activities.  Must attending continuing education training and classes as needed to maintain or increase skills in the areas of street signing striping. 

WORK CONDITIONS:  Work requires some extended work hours, overtime, night, weekend, and holiday hours as well as during severe weather.  Work requires incumbents to be on-call duty for emergencies after regular business hours.
