Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise two work crews.  The Labor Foreman II supervises and participates in grounds maintenance of Oakwood Cemetery and leads an additional work crew in the maintenance of medians and right of ways in various locations throughout the City.   Responsibility includes effectively laying out work, maintaining work schedules, and providing technical instructions as required.  The essential functions are: directs activities of two work crews; instructs and trains crews in the safe performance of various tasks; maintains grave sites at Oakwood Cemetery; and performs administrative related duties.  The employee in this position reports to the Cemetery Maintenance Foreman.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of lead worker experience performing maintenance and landscaping tasks.  Preference will be given to those applicants who have maintenance and landscaping experience working in a cemetery, funeral home or mortuary or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

  


Special Requirements

Must have a valid Alabama's Driver's License as needed to operate a City owned vehicle.  Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to elements, to include, heat, cold, rain and dust.  Must be available to work weekends, holidays and after normal working hours as required.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical ability to lift and move objects up to 70 pounds such as fertilizer, seed, and herbicides.  Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend repeatedly for extended periods of time as needed to complete various work tasks.
