Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise and oversee the court clerical and data entry work required for the daily operations of the Municipal Court. Employees in this class are responsible for supervising and training the municipal court staff in the specific procedures used for maintaining and filing court case files, assigning work to others, providing guidance and assistance to clerical personnel, and providing technical information to public parties in cases, attorneys and judges. The primary work responsibilities of the position are: performs supervisory duties; updates and maintains court documents and records; and processes warrants on failure to appear or delinquent misdemeanor cases and traffic tickets.  Employees perform technical court clerical and data entry duties which may require initiative and independent judgment based on established court and departmental procedures.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Municipal Court Administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and four (4) years of responsible clerical or administrative experience in a court environment involving updating and maintaining court documents OR four (4) years of clerical supervisory experience.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must attend and successfully complete the Alabama Municipal Court Clerks and Magistrates Association Certification Program within two (2) years of appointment.
