NATURE OF WORK

This is plastering-masonry work at the journeyman level at State facilities.

An employee in this class is responsible for performing maintenance operations, repairs, alterations and minor construction work on walls, ceilings, partitions, floors, walkways, curbs and other structures requiring the application of plastering or simple masonry techniques. Work assignments are received and may involve the use of plastering tools, masonry tools, plaster, mortar, concrete, bricks, blocks or stone.

An employee in this class receives general supervision from a designated physical plant foreman or other designated agency officer. Work effectiveness is determined through observation of completed work in terms of quality and appearance. This employee may occasionally supervise lower level personnel, assigned or assisting in projects.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Applies rough and finish coats of plaster to interior walls, ceilings, and partitions;

Plasters damaged walls and ceilings;

Lays, finishes and repairs concrete walls, curbing and steps;

Performs some black and brickwork in repairing door and window openings, catch basins, gutters and chimneys;

Mixes, lays and finishes concrete work on yards, walls and interior floors;

Performs other necessary duties as required.
