NATURE OF WORK

A Linen Service Supervisor is the supervisory level of work directing the activities of subordinate employees in the clothing and linen service operations of a State facility or institution who are engaged in the issuance, repair, marking, and laundering of linens to insure a constant supply of bed linens, table linens and clothing.  Employees in this classification supervise lower-level Linen Service Workers, Linen Service Officers and related support staff.

Employees in this classification receive supervision from an executive housekeeper or administrator.

Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology.  The use of this method involves comparing assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work Sections of the class specification.

The Linen Service Supervisor is differentiated from Linen Service Officer in that the Linen Service Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for Linen Service Officers and Linen Service Workers while the Linen Service Officer performs the full range of duties and responsibilities directing the activities of patients or juveniles engaged in the issuance, repair, marking and laundering of bedding and clothing in a linen operation under general supervision.  The Linen Service Supervisor is differentiated from the Linen Service Worker in that the Linen Service Worker performs the full range of laundry care duties and responsibilities without the help of patients or juveniles under general supervision.
