NATURE OF WORK

This is cartographic drafting work at the trainee level. Positions in this class do not exercise supervision. Workers in this class under close supervision learn the basics of scribing map details onto emulsion coated plastics.

Position allocation to this classification is determined by the Classification Job Evaluation methodology.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Learns the procedures for scribing on emulsion coated plastics with special scribing tools using precise line tolerances usually smaller than .010 inch;

Learns to inspect and touch up features on the map manuscript that do not meet reproduction requirements;

Learns to plot changes and revisions to roads, water features, boundaries and culture from plans and other documents on maps;

Performs other related duties.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, plane geometry, and English;

Ability to use and care for scribing drafting tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate.
