Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position will provide nursing services including, but not limited to: direct care, assessments, nursing care plans, and facilitating health care services to patients. In addition, regular contact with individuals, families, nursing staff, physicians, and other departments is required.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Administers treatments as directed.
     
  • Takes and records vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration).
     
  • Pours, administers, charts and records medications.
     
  • Gives prescribed intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and inoculations.
     
  • Observes patient behavior and condition and reports changes to appropriate staff. 
     
  • Records information on patients' charts.

Job Requirement Series

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Licensed Practical Nurse I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Practical Nurse license, Delaware temporary license or multi-state compact license.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Licensed Practical Nurse II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
  2. At least six months experience as a Practical Nurse.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Licensed Practical Nurse III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  1. Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
  2. At least eighteen months experience as a Practical Nurse.

Conditions of Hire

Union:  As a condition of accepting employment, the person selected for this position shall join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, instead not join but pay a service fee no greater than the dues.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.
