Summary Statement

These positions performs biological sampling, management, research and reporting information related to fisheries management. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions.  Most positions will require applicants to be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects. 
  • Collects field samples and data. 
  • Assists in fish and whelk aging methods.
  • Assists in laboratory work requiring use of microscopes, digital imaging software, and other lab equipment.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.  
  • Assists in data entry.
  • Maintains records and reports detailing daily activities.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Must be 18 years of age.
  2. Knowledge of operating and maintaining marine vessels.
  3. Knowledge of biological field sampling.
  4. Knowledge of invasive species identification and management.
  5. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
