The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services seeks qualified individuals for the position of Pharmacy Technician, at the Whiting Forensic Hospital - Whiting Service. POSITION # 118082. This position is location in the Pharmacy at Whiting Forensic Hospital - Whiting Service, located in Middletown, CT. This is a full-time, thirty-seven and one half (37.5) hours per week position. The Work Schedule is as follows: Week one: Monday thru Friday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Week Two: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 8:00 A.M to 4:00 p.m.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Prepares and delivers medications and other pharmaceutical supplies, according to Pharmacy Policy and Procedure, accurately using the Automated Medication System, i.e. the Pyxis Medstation, PARx barcoding system, Cubie Replenishing Station and the CII Safe. Assists the pharmacists in filling prescriptions from bulk stock for TL/Discharges. Assists the pharmacists in acting as the laison between the pharmacist and nursing unit/division, delivering medication information and other information needed by the unit. Orders medication from the wholesaler via the mobile handheld device. Maintains and stores inventory of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy supplies in dispensing areas under proper conditions of refrigeration and security. Receives incoming orders with a proper date and signature and secures all paperwork to the pharmacy supervisor. Maintains adequate stock of medication on each Medstation, paying close attention to stock outs and critical lows. Repackages medications, not available as unit dose, using the Pre-packaging Machine/Computer. Maintains pre-packager drug files and equipment according to manufacturer guidelines. Conducts special surveys under the guidelines established by the pharmacy supervisor, including monthly medication storage area and emergency cart inspections. Maintains pertinent operational data and records as required.
