The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services seeks qualified individuals for the position of QUALIFIED CRAFT WORKER (Automotive & Mechnical Equipment) within the Administrative & Support Services Division. POSITION # CV 76929 This position is located in the GARAGE at Connecticut Valley Hospital, Middletown, CT 06457. This is a full-time, thirty-seven and one half (37.50) hours per week position. The Schedule is, as follows: Monday thru Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This position will be responsible for the following duties to include, but not limited to:
Repair and maintain various vehicles ranging from passenger cars to 9 ton dump trucks. Repair and maintenance of mowing, construction, and snow removal equipment, 2 and 4 stroke small engine repair. Repair and maintenance of generators. During snow removal operates and repairs snow removal equipment. Keeps records of fleet vehicle usage.

Performs highly skilled maintenance and/or construction work requiring application of trade skills, codes and standard trade practices in electrical, plumbing, utilities, or HVACR trade areas; makes estimates of time, personnel and determines and obtains required materials; keeps necessary records; may perform duties related to similar trade areas as required; may act as liaison with other operating units and outside contacts; may operate heavy equipment; may respond to fire and/or crash emergency situations at state owned airports; performs related duties as required.
AUTOMOTIVE AND MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT: Diagnoses failure in all types of automotive and heavy mobile equipment; services, dismantles, overhauls and reassembles front ends, engines, standard and automatic transmissions, rear ends, hydraulic systems and automotive electrical systems; constructs and repairs any needed parts; welds or brazes parts by oxyacetylene torch or electric welding; may operate testing equipment required to diagnose automotive electronic components.
Preference will be given to applicants who:
Possess and have the ability to retain a ASE A6 Electronics certification and ASE A8 engine performance certification.
Possess or are willing and able to obtain a CDL with bus passenger endorsement.
Have knowledge of heavy truck and diesel.
