Introduction

This position is located at 450 Columbus Blvd., Hartford.  The hours are 8:30 - 4:30, Monday - Friday.  This individual will serve on the Federal Programs Cross Divisional Training Team enabling school turnaround efforts, School Improvement Grants (SIG) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement (IDEA) subgroup improvements under Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  As a member of the Federal programs Cross Divisional Team, the School Turnaround Education Services Assistant will provide embedded, capacity-building support in portfolio of low-performing schools.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Education, assists in planning and executing a program for the improvement of education in the State: under supervision is responsible for carrying out specific technical and statistical assignments.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists in the development and operation of educational programs and services offered by the State; provides professional and technical assistance to school authorities, professional organizations, students and various community groups and individuals; may assist in the routine functioning of the bureau; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of the philosophy and methods of education with particular reference to the field concerned; knowledge of statistical and technical procedures; ability to prepare reports; ability to deal effectively with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

A Master’s degree in education or a closely related field and one (1) year of relevant professional experience OR in lieu thereof, an equivalent combination of experience and training as approved by the Board of Education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate would have working knowledge of the K-12 school system; completed a planned program of education preparation; knowledge of IEP and special education process; experience working with students with disabilities; experience with academic challenges of students with disabilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

May be required to hold an appropriate educator or administrator certificate issue by the Bureau of Certification and accreditation.
