Introduction

The Department of Consumer Protection's mission is to ensure a fair and equitable marketplace, safe products and services for consumers in the industries that we license, regulate and enforce. The Department has several divisions and operational groups, each with its own area of expertise including Education and Outreach,  Communications, Legislative and Policy, Legal, Drug Control, Foods and Standards, License Services, Investigations, Gaming, Liquor Control, Occupational & Professional Licensing and Operations.

The Investigations Division protects the public from unfair or deceptive business practices, fraud, and scams that affect the Connecticut marketplace, including those sometimes associated with home improvement and new home construction. The Division enforces the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA) and helps to mediate disputes between buyers and sellers. This division is responsible for all legal action the agency is authorized to take.

The Investigations Division has two (2) current job opportunities for Inspection Aides. These positions will be assigned to the Complaint Center who processes, handles and resolves several thousand complaints per year. 

The positions are full-time, forty (40) hours per week, Monday - Friday and located at 450 Columbus Blvd.in Hartford.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a State agency this class is accountable for performing a full range of basic technical inspection or regulatory work.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

These positions support the intake and processing of complaints by scanning, cataloging and entering a very broad spectrum of complaints into the eLicensing system. Consumers and businesses may be contacted for additional information. Administrative support is also provided to investigators, inspectors and examiners.  Work includes compiling, organizing and detailing evidence into a database.   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to conduct basic inspections and investigations; ability to interpret and apply law enforcement and regulatory requirements of the assigned agency; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience or training which would provide the knowledge, skill, and ability indicated above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Organizational skills and the ability to perform routine assignments with minimal supervision.

Ability to review and understand data as well as prepare comprehensive reports.

Interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills.

Familiarity with Microsoft office suite and other computer programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A complete physical examination may be required prior to employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may occasionally be exposed to moderately disagreeable job conditions.
