Introduction

The Department of Public Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services is currently accepting applications for an Emergency Medical Services Training Coordinator. This is a full-time forty (40) hour per week position. The EMS Training Coordinator is a dedicated and experienced leadership professional, responsible for the day-to-day operation of ensuring compliance and evaluating educational programs for effectiveness. The selected candidate will generate training programs as needed to meet the needs of the EMS community and be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting state statutes and regulations as they apply to EMS education and training.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Public Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services, this class is accountable for performing the most complex tasks in coordinating statewide Emergency Medical Services education and training programs.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Coordinates emergency medical services training between credentialed field personnel and instructors; serves as liaison between state Emergency Medical Services office and educational organizations; provides technical assistance to communities, public service agencies, state and local governments and instructors; develops curricula and co-directs their implementation through community colleges; develops and implements training programs such as emergency training for school nurses; ensures quality of training and training outcomes through review and analysis of a variety of evidence-based data; evaluates training programs and instructors’ performance; produces a two day statewide EMS educational conference annually; speaks before groups regarding emergency training; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of emergency medical services; knowledge of principles and practices of in service training; knowledge of education methods and techniques; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Seven (7) years of experience in emergency medical services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

1. Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in emergency medical services at a technical level.
2. One (1) year of the General Experience must have been as a full time instructor in an organized training program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Current State Certified Emergency Medical Instructor and current Connecticut licensed paramedic with working knowledge of the current educational standards;

• Experience in leveraging EMS and hospital resources to achieve shared educational goals;

• Experience in performance improvement, coalition building and the ability to effectively communicate to large diverse groups of people;

• Working knowledge of the CT EMS Regulations as they apply to education, and knowledge of Emergency systems of care, both prehospital and in hospital;

• Experience in facilitating individuals and groups to develop EMS education modules through input, feedback, solutions and learning integration as it applies to education methodologies and distance learning.
