In the Commission on the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, this class is accountable for supervising the program and staff of the Counseling Division engaged in the provision of counseling and/or guidance services to deaf and hearing impaired clients.
Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans unit work; establishes and maintains unit procedures; develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; speaks to lay and professional groups regarding Counseling Center programs; performs related duties as required.
Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal law, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of special problems and needs of the deaf and hearing impaired; considerable knowledge of programs and services available to the deaf and hearing impaired; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; ability to plan, organize and supervise counseling programs and services for the deaf and hearing impaired; ability to communicate effectively with deaf and hearing impaired persons; ability to prepare reports; supervisory ability.
Three (3) years of the General Experience must have been in an organization, agency or institution engaged in programs serving the deaf and hearing impaired.
